I tried out Musashi after a friend recommended it to me (and after seeing all of the raving reviews of it online). After coming here, I'm honestly not sure what the hype is all about. One thing that really threw me off when we first came in was the set up; there was a sushi bar and normal dining areas, but the chairs were like office chairs. It was almost like I was in a nail salon, but not quite... kind of weird. It was also really hot when I ate there; again maybe it was an off time for them or their air conditioning was broken. Not a big problem or anything, but when it's 85 degrees outside, I don't want to be in a room that hot inside either. The menu did have a diverse selection of sushi and the likes which should suit anyone's tastes. When I got my food, it was room temperature, almost too warm and to the point where my rolls were falling apart. The items I ordered were okay, but nothing spectacular by any means. The service was good and attentive. I saw a previous review where someone mentioned that one of the chefs spoke some Japanese and had traveled all over the world; with that said, I have been to France twice, speak a small amount of French, but by no means consider myself to be a connoisseur of French cuisine. I am willing to give this place another shot, but won't go out of my way to do so.

YUCK! That's about all I can say about this place. The raw fish was warm, which was very unappetizing. Surf clam was just like a piece of rubber. Never could chew it. Salmon was old and fishy tasting. This was my 3rd try on this place. Same results each time. I'll never go back.

Great fresh sushi, great ppl! Unique, delicious , best around!
(5)Sharon L.
Best sushi in GP. Definitely going back again and again.
(4)Jesse P.
Great sushi. Great atmosphere. Great service. What more can you ask for?
(4)Lorissa J.
Its like a miracle: authentic, fresh food and excellent service in our little town. Best sushi place in Grants pass.
(4)Sara L.
This place is great! The fish is ultra-fresh, the service is friendly and prompt, it is clean and very reasonably priced. I have had sushi in other major American cities and none beat Musashi. My husband and I can eat a lot of sushi and not even we can finish a Love Bridge (3 rolls, sashimi and hand rolls for only $50!). I will never darken the door of the place on G street again. That sushi is okay, but the service is surly at best. Musashi is the type of place where you feel the staff is genuinely glad to see you. Thankfully, the food is so good that you want to go back. Be sure to try the seaweed salad.

Well, I stopped in Grant's Pass for a night and looked around for something to eat. Yelp led me to this place and I have to say that in all my years of eating sushi I have eaten a places as good, but only one better. The fish was fresh, but that was expected. The stars are the staff, both serving and chefs. The fish, rice, nor I, and all the other components were fresh and very well prepared. The balance of components in the nigiri were perfect, especially the use of wasabi. I heartily recommend this restaurant for a exceptional sushi experience.

We have eaten here a few times and in the past it has been o.k. First off we are not sushi eaters and apparently this is their speciality. On this occasion I had the senior teriyaki beef. Fortunately I have all of my own teeth which were needed to chew the stuff. This "beef" was probably the toughest piece of meat I have ever eaten. My wife ordered the tempura shrimp which was not entirely cooked (we don't like sushi). The shrimp was also very oily. The salads were o.k. but they need to cut the greens somewhat smaller or furnish a knife. Our waiter was outstanding and very attentive to our needs. other than that I don't think we will return. The date of our "dining experience" was 7/24/15. I am very generous in giving two stars.

I'm the kind of reviewer that will only give 5 stars to a restaurant that far exceeds my expectations on all fronts. Tonight was one of those nights. I entered the room and they were totally packed, three chefs frantically cutting fish but was still greeted with a jovial IRASSHAIMASE as the waitress guided me to the bar (which appeared to be the only open spot left). She kindly handed me a menu and warned me that there was a bit of a wait because it was busy. Luckily this was no problem because I was quickly joined by a lovely couple for dinner. T.A. and Kat are regulars who's stories and company were greatly appreciated. Conversation and atmosphere were wonderful. Staff happily joined in the fun and before too long our three meals were served. We ended up sharing our meals and it was just glorious. I ordered the JD roll and tekka (tuna) roll. T.A., a seasoned veteran, ordered nigiri of salmon, scallop, shrimp boats and grilled green muscles. I basically had a little of everything and a lot of the rest and I enjoyed EVERY bite. Let me tell you that I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Food, atmosphere, staff and new friends made me feel like a king. Thank you.

A real five star venue here in Grants Pass. Traditional Japanese with all your favorites on the menu. Excellent service and friendly staff. Fresh and tasty sushi and sashimi. I have this spot bookmarked for the future !
(5)Brittony S.
Amazing sushi! Smaller restaurant, but I love it here! I order to go as well as staying in :)
(5)Jamie J.
This is by far the best sushi place I've eaten at. It's been so long since I've eaten here.
(5)Michael W.
Knowing that Grants Pass is not necessarily a destination for dining, we enjoyed both the food and our server. Two thumbs up
(5)Roger W.
We came here for the first time on our anniversary night. We've eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants in the SF Bay Area and will say this restaurant is tops. They tend to serve a bit too much rice but the sashimi is fresh and delicious. The biggest compliment is how they made us feel welcomed. Great customer service. If you're in town, you have got to try this place. We'll be back
(4)Carmen L.
Best sushi in town. We love to take our boys here to add much needed cultural flair to our Grants Pass life. My seven year old likes the fried soft shell crab. The service is small town personal and the sushi is genuine and delicious.

Sometimes, I sit back and remember the days without yelp....how did we find these great restaurants, hotels, Nail techs or coffee houses? I guess by word of mouth, or driving by....? I can't remember that long ago. But the point is, it is a day like this that I want to tip my hat to my fellow yelpers!!! Thank you for your straight up reviews of a exceptional business, You are the best!! :) This little nook of a gem sushi dream is fabulous!! Everything about it, the people, the sushi chefs, the sushi...lol, the green tea, the wasabi....all of it was amazing. So i would like to thank those of you who left these honest reviews, I would also like to thank the fisherman who caught this wild fresh fish for out sashimi and sushi, also thanking my dad who taught me the difference of fresh to not fresh fish, and last but not least I would like to thank god. If it weren't for him, we would have no fish. Thank you all!!

Our inaugural Grants Pass feeding fell short. I'm tossing the mystic stars between a 2 or 3. It tucks you in with its charming Japanese trinkets but fumbles on the fish. Digs: Decorated well with pagoda trimmings and samurai detail it creates a feeling of home (that obviously this white boy has never experienced being raised in a small white Washingtonian town); Ate: Ika salad - ( Smoked calamari yes squid salad) - very tasty nearly like smoked salmon with ginger and fish sauce that made me moan a little; unfortunately this was the highlight of our eating experience; Yellowtail roll - presented around a heavy wall of rice, we were poorly bloated at how little fish there was versus rice; barely any flavor; Nigiri - tilapia (shockingly ice cold), tamago (sweet egg, but smelled of light barnyard), bbq scallop (enjoyable but heavy sauce masked the scallop taste); Drank: Hot house saki - brought warmth to a soggy night - dry not too sweet (at least they pour well); BONUS: they come equipped with a mini-ish full bar for cocktails; Service: Another sour note was the waitstaff. Slow plate to plate service was a little frustrating between multiple waiters; murmurs began next to us when the waiter simple forgot an after dinner mint (quite traditional?) for the couple, then returned and literally tossed the mint at them and walked away without a word; yes it could be perceived as anal but the slight disrespect was startling; it was a chaotic system; Overall: When studying our experience and the ratings collected prior I don't feel confident Grants Pass understands what quality service and sushi really is. The walls feel cozy but Musashi needs to revisit their fish menu and retrain the front-house staff before swimming with the likes of Shinsei Sushi or Umi (Jacksonville).

With a four and a half star rating, I had to try their sushi. Their service is excellent and they were so kind. My Only complaint: there was mayonnaise inside and on top of my sushi roll. The menu also said that 'sauce' was part of some of the meals. What I ordered on the menu did not mention any mayonnaise whatsoever on the sushi roll. But there it was, hidden under the topping. I said nothing. I don't like making a fuss. I ate it. I hated every mayonnaise bite. It was The only flavour I could taste and took 6 hours to get the mayo taste out of my mouth. It must be an American thing to drizzle thick sauces and mayonnaise over sushi rolls these days. If you like that, pay no attention to me. If you are a sushi purest like me, make sure you make it perfectly clear you don't want any sauces like that, and of course soy sauce and wasabi ARE the exceptions.
(3)Amanda R.
I ordered the teriyaki chicken for lunch and it was delightful. The price was not bad at all for as much good food as I got. A lovely place!
(5)LL P.
The sushi is tasty but the menu needs to be a little more streamlined. Our two servers were nice. The place was clean.
(4)Rob H.
Musashi's is amazing. My favorite is the Dragon Roll, but everything is top of the line. I lived in Japan for 5 years and I'm a sushi snob. I never had sushi in Tokyo better than Musashi. The best!!
(5)Carolyn H.
After reading the positive reviews, my husband and I decided to try it. Unfortunately, as the one star rating reflects we did not share the sentiment. At first glance the menu seemed limited. They offered the standards but nothing that hinted at creativity. After ordering, to our horror we watched as the sushi chef stroked his beard while chatting with his partner. We should have gotten up and left then. When our lunch finally arrived, the Maguro had brown hard edges around the sides and the Tomago was tough and hard. The rice was over cooked and landed in my stomach like a mushy blob. Yesterday was the first time I left sushi behind. To their credit, the wait staff are very friendly but the friendliness may have gone overboard with the regulars, spending long minutes at some tables and very few at others. I hope this was a bad day, but for us, we will not go back.

As a sushi regular in Seattle and LA, I was impressed with this great find in Grants Pass. Located in what looks like more of an industrial area, I was greeted warmly and what was presented was a wide selection of fresh fish just brought in that day. The saba nigiri was excellent, generously portioned, and the salmon nigiri was as soft and delicate as can be, full of flavor. I appreciated that there were no fancy garnishes that are often unnecessary. I'll be back.
(4)Lindsi B.
Super friendly staff! Great service and food was delicious and fresh! Will definitely be back!
(4)Michele S.
I love this place! I even missed it when I moved away for school but now that I'm back in town I order take out very often. I can't speak about the sit down service so much but every one I've spoken with on the phone is just delightful. They're always happy to customize my order and have our food ready super quick! I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who is a fan of sushi or japanese food.

I have been to a lot of highly rated Sushi restaurants in big cities across the country and I can honestly say that Musashi is my favorite. Its nothing super special on the inside but there is consistently a very friendly vibe and its always packed. My absolute favorite roll is the JD: Shrimp Tempura , Tobiko and Salmon , Onion & Lemon on Top. OUTSTANDING!
(5)Paisley S.
Musashi cannot compare to some of the sushi you can find in larger cities. The menu needs to be updated to reflect what they offer, and they often have too much overly vinegared rice on their rolls, masking the flavor of the fish... HOWEVER, their fish (raw on rolls and sashimi) is always delicious, especially for somewhere so inland. Nowhere in southern Oregon have I found better sashimi. They cut it thick! The atmosphere is very casual and often authentic. You're greeted by the sushi chefs with a traditional "iterashai" greeting. Many orders and instructions between the waitstaff, sushi chefs, and kitchen staff are given in Japanese, which is really fun if you know a little of the language. Some of the waitresses (owners, maybe?) are clearly from Japan. Miyazaki film soundtracks sometimes play in the background, and if you sit at or near the bar, the sushi chefs are infectiously personable and playful, per Japanese tradition. The sushi is definitely good enough, the sashimi is delicious, the experience, if you're into that sort of thing, is the best part. Overtly, almost gimmickly Japanese in a way you won't find in a major city.
(4)Megan A.
Went here for the first time today. Staff was very friendly, but sushi was just OK. I've been wanting to compare it to G street, but G street is still way better! Spicy mayo just tasted like mayonnaise! Sticking to G street!
(3)Nicci P.
I've eaten here more times than I can count, over a 8 yr period and the food has always been great. Sushi is fresh and cooked food is great. Most of the time service has been excellent especially when you get a server that has been there a long time. If I had to criticize anything it would be that it needs updated, new menus without pictures. Too many items on menu, class it up a bit. I always take friends or family here, and have never been disappointed.
(4)Carolina A.
This is the best sushi place in Grants Pass!! Not much to say, just that the sushi rolls are very good and the portions of fish are generous! Also, staff is very friendly! I highly recommend to anyone!!!
(4)Roxann P.
Always, always, always wonderfully fresh tasty sushi and great service. Rich and his crew never let us down...we get the love bridge and it is enough to feed the whole table but we always order a few extras as we just cannot get enough. Service is always fantastic!! Keep up the great job all!!
(5)Mary M.
The best sushi in Grants Pass. Fresh and delicious sushi, rolls, tempura bento box. Super nice an attentive staff. Definitely will go back!
(5)Chris C.
This place is great! The fish is always very fresh and their rolls are incredible. It has a great atmosphere and such a friendly staff. You can really tell that they take pride in the food they serve. And a HUGE menu.
(5)Brooklyn R.
I have given this place 5 stars in the past but was really disappointed with my last visit. I feel like their sushi is the best you will find in grants pass, and the customer service is pretty good. But last night we went and we ordered as soon as we sat down (We always order the same thing) it took close to an hour to receive our food. All I ordered was the chicken teriyaki meal and the Hiabusa roll. It wasn't that busy there.. I don't understand what took so long. Anyway the main reason that I am so disappointed is because they raised their prices and lessened the portion sizes drastically. My meal was supposed to be a dinner portion for $10.95 I'd say that's a good price for a decent dinner portion but there wasn't even enough food to really even call it a lunch portion. Usually my husband and I share the roll and the chicken meal and leave there stuffed. This time, we went home and had a second dinner.
(3)David B.
Excellent sushi and nice large pieces of fish served. Great find here in Grants Pass. Will be back soon !
(4)Shaun M.
The best sushi in grants pass. The food is always fresh and the service is friendly and fast. I've been enjoying the sushi here for a few years. Very highly recommended.
(5)Jihn D.
the best sushi in southern Oregon hands down! Everything is great and the service and atmosphere are awesome. ..
(5)Brandon P.
Very authentic and oishi desu (yummy)! I haven't had such great soba and natto since I lived in Japan! Highly recommended!
(5)Mike W.
Our new favorite treat to order is Poki. It is da kine brah! I would love to add a photo, but I don't see the upload link on this page.

I have had great sushi especially living in an area where it is abundant Musashi's is also great sushi especially for Southern Oregon! Only been once but what I had was very fresh and nice presentation and what wonderful service! I liked everyone there, it was my birthday and I was treated like a queen! love this place, my new fav
(5)Annie B.
Fresh and delicious! The service was great. We've been here a few times, and it's always very good.
(5)Johnny A.
We were going through town on the way to LA and it was a great stop to make for dinner. Good food and great people.

My first visit to this establishment was by far a nice change to some that I have experienced. I was greeted warmly and was happy to be seated quickly. My wife & son were meeting me there and knew that it would be about 10 minutes. I went to the bathroom which was very clean, and then seated at the table watching the chefs working away on putting those rolls out for hungry customers, what they were making looked like works of art and I felt I came to a place that took pride in the product they were serving. The waitstaff were asking if i was ready to order and I went ahead and ordered for my wife, son & myself knowing what they would usually order. I ordered the teriyaki chicken for myself & my wife, chicken katsu for my son. I had the soup and my wife had salad, both delicious. I was served a very nice plate of teriyaki chicken a star of sticky rice, a extra serving of sauce, a bowl of pickled cucumber, and was enjoying every bite. there is ginger & wasabi already on the table for those that need it, I was going to order a California Roll, but with the amount of food I received I didn't want to push my appetite, I will be going back again with the intention of ordering from the chefs, those wonderful looking works of art they put out. Domo arigato
(5)Matt H.
AWESOME FOOD AND SERVICE. Sometimes I wish I could get the bill a little faster when I am in a rush. These guys make great rolls and know how to expedite and take care of customers. The oysters on the 1/2 shell were enormous and fresh and original and almost a meal on their own. ORIGINAL and delicious. Thanks again.
(4)Lowell G.
Having spent time in Japan, I quite often get a yearning for the food and I am thankful to have a great Japanese restaurant right here in town. Richard and his staff always provide great food and service. A big selection on the menu and everything is always very fresh. Never had a bad experience there! My favorites : Beef Udon, Uni, and the oysters. My wife loves their Tempura. Highly recommend!
(5)Christie C.
Great food and great service! I come here usually once a week for lunch. I would definitely recommend you try this place if you haven't already.
(5)Wilson B.
Apologies for the belated review; I stopped by here for the first time, a few months ago. I'll admit that it was their Yelp rating that made me pick Musashi, but I have no regrets. Friendly service directly from the owner, super-fresh fish served Tokyo-style. I personally prefer nigiri to "big rolls", but if you like those, this seems like a trustworthy place to order them. I had to keep driving, so I only got to look at the sake list, but it was better than usual, though not a hardcore sake-specialist kind of selection either. This sushi spot is better than anything I've managed to find in Portland yet.
(5)hannah k.
In Grants Pass and in search of some good sushi. Look nowhere else. Coming from a bigger city, i can say that i've had better sushi in LA and PDX but for GP, their sushi is good. The service is great, you feel well taken care of and it's fun to watch the sushi chefs do their thing. The fish tasted fresh. I really enjoy their JD roll: shrimp tempura, salmon, tobiko, onion and lemon, yum. The only odd thing about this place is that while it looks like a sushi restaurant, all the chairs are large leather office chairs...kinda odd but comfortable i guess? ha ha. Prices are kinda high but if you want to eat good sushi in GP, pony up those few extra dollars and eat here.
(4)Suzanne S.
Wonderful & always fresh
(5)Tyler C.
Excellent food!
(5)billy r.
this place rules! friendly, knowledgeable staff; cozy setting with comfy ass padded chairs (kinda office style- but in a good way); and above all some of the best sushi i've had - not just in oregon, but period. soo good, soooo good. the chef really knew his stuff. the rolls are HUGE and the rice is prepared properly (which, believe it or not, is a rarity). fish was fresh and delicious. lastly, we came here on a thursday which is when they get their delivery of specialty fish. soontoro, uni, and albacore. soooooo dang good, sooooo dang fresh. if you like sushi, you need to eat here. i'll be there next thursday, i hear they might have toro(!!!)
(5)Mary R.
This is the BEST Sushi I have ever had anywhere! The fish is always super fresh and delicious. Everyone is friendly and it is always clean.
(5)Josh A.
Just moved from Vegas where there are a ton of great sushi bars. Didn't think I'd find anything close in this small town. Musashi is on par with some of the better sushi shops I've gone to in Vegas. Very surprised.
(5)Jen Z.
Absolutely LOVE this place. Rich, the owner, and his staff are amazing. They are friendly, funny, and fast. Had dinner with 6 friends tonight and every single order was perfect and all came out at the same time. PLUS, we ask for special stuff and they always just provide it - no questions or whining, just hapy to serve. The sushi is amazing quality and the non-sushi items from the Japanes menu are authentic and very tasty. Best sushi in Grants Pass oregon by far!
(5)Chris N.
Wow... a very nice surprise. Not from the area and didn't expect this as all. The service was great the fish was fresh. The chicken teriyaki was amazingly tender. The Unagi was thick and juicy. If I come back to Grants Pass I will definitely be back. If you have kids I recommend the Calpico drink, it is a great Japanese drink your kids will love.
(4)Bonnie C.
Musashi is my favorite spot for sushi, period. The fish is always fresh and tasty. The tempura is light and flavorful. The JD roll is my favorite, but I look forward to trying the Cinco de Mayo roll. The staff is friendly, and I love the easy-going atmosphere in this restaurant. I can't say that I'm a sushi expert, but this place is my favorite!
(5)Djuka A.
Musashi is hands down the best sushi in Southern Oregon. The fish is fresh and delicious! Make sure you try the vegetable tempura, the broth that comes with it is heavenly. Some of my favorites are the Fish Tempura which features crushed cashews, the JD roll with shaved onion and lemon on top (my mouth is watering just thinking about it), and the Cinco De Mayo roll, which has the most tender spicy tuna on top (I swear the tuna is so tender, it just melts in your mouth). Oh and don't forget to get the sesame dessert balls at the end of your meal.....I have never had such a dessert before. It has a melted bean of some sort inside that tastes like chocolate. The staff is down to earth, friendly, and very welcoming. I am so sad to be moving so far away from the wonderful place. Musashi for life!!! Don't sleep GP! : )
(5)Diane B.
Best in town. Richard the sushi chef is very knowledgable, he even speaks Japanese. He's been all over the world
(5)J S.
Slow......slow...........slow sushi service. 3 stars for food. Minus 1/2 star for inattentive service and 1/2 star for 45 minute wait for sushi.
(2)Kathleen A.
Had lunch here, the fish is perfect and completely fresh. Prepared with skill and care. Reasonable prices and excellent service. A southern Oregon gem!
(5)The M.
Always the best and freshest sushi in town! Great atmosphere and great prices.
